Day 16: Nanjing

We finally found out where everyone is! They're all hanging out at the food street that we stumbled upon at dinner time. We decided to sleep in today, which felt so nice. We got up around 10am and then headed by bus to Zhongshan Mountain, also known as Purple Mountain. Nanjing used to be the capital of China a long time ago, and the old city walls are still up around the city. The first Ming Emperor was buried in this mountain. Here, we visited the Ming Tombs (picture above) and also Sun Yatsen's Mausoleum. The Mausoleum was super impressive! Dr. Sun is recognized by everyone as the father of modern China, and his tomb is right in the middle of the mountain. It's at the top of 392 steps and in a marble tomb.

The view from the top was also very impressive. We could see the city and the lower region of the mountain. The weather was also very cooperative, a nice overcast sky with a breezy wind.

Afterwards, we took the bus to metro and went to the railway station and then to Shiziqiao, which is a food alley that has a lot of restaurants. We had some snacks at a place called Great Nanjing Eatery that resembled an old teahouse, but afterwards we were still hungry. I had a lamb stick (yum!) and then we went to Ajisen Ramen and I got curry beef udon noodles. So good! Now we're back at the hostel and trying to figure out where to go tomorrow!
