The Beijing Metro System is not my favorite. It took over an hour just to cross the city. Yes I know Beijing is huge, but they seem to be lagging on the new metro lines they promised to be opened by 8/8/08. And they're not. Oh well. I met up with Krista from PLU who is also doing the same program. She's been in Beijing for the past month, enrolled in a Chinese language/culture program but apparently it's been poorly organized and run so I'm glad I did the traveling thing. It was great to see a familiar face and just compare thoughts on Beijing and China. I'm excited to meet the rest of the group. Our program starts July 1st so tomorrow will be my last free day to be lazy and relax.
I also finished reading
A Thousand Splendid Suns today, which was in the back of my mind all day. With all this reading, I've felt quite literary and my mind is constantly on overtime, thinking and analyzing everything. I should really read more often. It was bittersweet to finish the book, though. I didn't want it to end since I don't really have anything else to read except for Nikki's
Red Dust book, which I am also almost finished with. I was also kindly greeted by Jezebel when I returned home tonight. Here is Jezebel.

She was so excited that she peed in the front hallway. I had to mop up that mess. I'm quite the domestic housewife if I do say so myself. Afterwards, I watched
Spiderman 3 with the guys while eating a dinner of oreos. I'll need to find a bag of milk the next time I buy oreos.
Other pictures from the past few days:
A delicious bowl of beef and guilin noodles, and shaolongbaos, for 12 rmb:

The delicious lamb skewers from last night:

A crazy looking building that's almost done:

Daniel, the silly Swedish guy I met last night:

Q Bar, rated the best bar in Beijing by
The Beijinger, where we went last night:

The rest of these pictures won't show up as I load them, but they're there. They include a picture of Nikki's apartment complex where I'm staying, potstickers that are delicious!, a nice river (bleh) and smog, and a picture of some lamb leg (I think) from dinner last night.

That's all, folks!

Hey girlfriend! I love your blog it's so vibrant! I know what you mean about the ethnocentric outlooks and what your role should be in a country cuz I've been feeling some of that here to. Your travels sound amazing and I'm excited to here about you and Krista galavanting on even more adventures! Don't breath in too much pollution... the solution they give in Ecuador for pollution is to go to the Amazon for two day because the concentration of such fresh and humid air will clean you right out... but you have to deal with the sweating. Have a great first day of July!

Thumbs down, Beijing metro.
Remember the 1/2 mile wake to transfer trains in Shanghai? Thumbs down to that too.
